WALT: Make predictions, summarize and analyse a given text.

Answer the following questions in red:

Looking at the image and the title of the text, what do you think the story is about? Him not knowing the powhiri.

Can you predict what is about to happen next? Hes going to learn how to do it.

Why did you make that prediction? When the kaumatua sings the maori song he might know the powhiri.

Can you point to something in the book that helped you to make that prediction? OR What do you already know that helped you make that prediction? he feels sad not knowing the powhiri.

How do you think Eddie feels about not knowing how to do a powphiri? He feels  sad or bad that he dont know his own tradition maori powhiri.

Why does Eddie keep his mouth shut as other students begin to call out their ideas? He is scared he might get an answer wrong.

Eddie must be feeling very upset with himself, Are there clues that make us think this? Yes because On the front of the page he is feeling happy then on the other pic he turned upset and sad.

What’s going to happen next? He asked the koro if there was a lot of rules in the powhiri.

Who comes at visit the children in the afternoon? The koro comes to sing songs and does maori with them.

Why does Koro Tu ask lots of questions? To find out what they know about the powhiri.

What does Koro Tu mean by keeping your eyes and your ears open? because to them what to do in a powhiri. If they keep their eyes open and ears they would be find.

SUMMARIZING

What is the problem to be solved in this story? Is there a solution? Eddie does not know the powhiri and he dont wanna sing because he said he can't sing.

Who did what? What makes you think so? Eddie wants to know about the powhiri he asked koro a lot of questions about the powhiri.

What do you wonder about after reading so far? I hope he learns the powhiri.

What is the most important point in this story or passage? About the Tradition maori  powhiri.

Pickled Thumb Anyone? By Pam Kessler

Looking at the image on the front page, what do you think the story is about? Her holding a thumb and having lunch.

 Referring to the title only, what do you think the story is about? A thumb What was in the jar, what was the liquid in the jar? Water.

 Why do we pickle things in jars? What is the point of it? So it can keep it save or so she does not drop it when she is holding it.

 What did the little girl beg for? She begged so she can hear a story'

  What did the great grandfather do for a living? He was a miner Tell me five facts about a miner, use the story and research your own facts. 1st. A miner is a person who holds a pickaxe and break rocks and dig for them . 2nd. They go under ground. 3rd. They wert paid that much. 4th. If they had an accident they got payed. 5thThey always had a partner for mining.

  Why was grandad desperate? Because He didn’t have money to pay them back for the roof.

 Summarise what has happened in the story so far. They Were going in the mine and made a plan so that they can make more money to pay for the roof.

 Who are the characters in the story that have been introduced to us. Tell me one thing about each character. The little girl wants to hear a story because she likes hearing that story.

The Pt England way

The Pt England way is about respecting others in our school and community. These are some of our words to live by learning, responsibility, caring, joy, hope, service, Cooperation, honesty, our school, our people, our effort and success. We follow our Pt England ways so we are good in class and respect each other. We have 3p’s at our school they are partnership first,  participation second and protection third those are our 3p’s. Partnership means working together and helping out. Participation means joining in with the group and helping out as well. Protection mean helping the little kids and caring for others. We don't bully at our school we have to take charge, we look after the little ones because we care for others.

Movies in the park

I went to the movies in the park with my friends the movie was Wreck it ralph. I went with Jonathan Frankie and Auri. My Mum brought popcorn,cola,bean bags and my cousin too. Me and Frankie saw more of my friends so we hanged out with them. Jonathan and Auri went to play somewhere with their friends on the park. It was a fun day after the movie finished some of my friends walk home.

Jonathans friend gave him a scooter to use so. He was riding it then he saw the cops they came out of their car and asked thought it was stolen. We were shocked so Jonathan and Auri had to stay behind and do some questions. Him and Auri were there for 10 mins I waited for them I was talking to frankie and my friends as we were waiting we started playing games on our phone we play flappy brid. There were four of us there. After they finished with Auri and Jonathan we walk home.

Maths

One Of our maths task today was working on an addition triangle
one of the rules is that you can not write the same two numbers in each row.
I have just completed my first triangle I am now moving onto a more difficult one.
